Everyday Chinatown Exhibit Opening

  • Think!Chinatown 1 Pike Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

[Thurs Feb 12, 6pm-8pm] Join us for the exhibition opening for “Everyday Chinatown”. This exhibit focuses on our storytelling project of showcasing "everyday" objects to delve into our community's collective memory and everyday life. There’ll be refreshments!

We used a cellphone audioguide system to play back the stories which we have recorded in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. We have many visitors come through our neighborhood who might not have the chance to speak with someone who lives here. By recording and presenting stories from our seniors and other community members, our aim is to give our neighbors the opportunity to represent themselves. In 2020, during the pandemic, we invited four Asian-American artists to interpret these artifacts through animated illustrations. Read more
