Afternoon Tea 下午茶: A Taste Through Three Chinatown Histories

  • Think!Chinatown Studio 1 Pike Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

“Afternoon Tea 下午茶: A Taste Through Three Chinatown Histories” follows the stories of immigration movements from Canton, Fujian, and Southeast Asia to Manhattan’s Chinatown. Taste and learn about the origins of sweet and savory snacks, while sipping on teas that share similar cultural roots! We’ll also share insights into our fave foodie spots in the neighborhood. Each element from this afternoon tea experience is curated from local Chinatown businesses and Asian-owned businesses. This food experience includes servings of 3 special teas paired with 6+ snacks/desserts.

Here's a spotlight on the teas that T!C’s tea experts, Alice of Grand Tea & Imports and Anna of Anna Ye Tea, have selected for you:

  1. Taishan Sijiu (Four Nine) County Black Tea (台山四九紅茶), sourced from Grand Tea & Imports — Its rich fragrance is sweet and floral like the smoothest HK milk tea, while the tea’s lingering fragrance is reminiscent of premium Yunnan Black Tea.

  2. Anxi Qing Xiang Tieguanyin (清香鐵觀音), sourced from The Best Tea Shop (88 East Broadway) — A more contemporary style of an oolong tea originating from China’s Anxi region of Fujian province, that is much lighter and more floral than a traditional roasted Tieguanyin. A good Tieguanyin can make your mouth salivate and has a long, sweet aftertaste.

  3. Việtnamese Pomelo Blossom Green Tea (TRÀ HOA BƯỞI), sourced from Anna Ye Tea — In Việt Nam, pomelo flower blossoms are harvested only for a short period during March and April. This is one of traditional Việtnamese flower-scented teas made with a blend of dried pomelo flowers and wild green tea. Its got a citrus punch and is incredibly fragrant.

Let’s celebrate our rich and diverse immigrant community in Chinatown!
