We’re bringing back our community recording days to build a brand new Manhattan Chinatown collection on VBP’s digital Journeys Map. We invite you to bring in your family, friends, & neighbors to record a 40-minute oral history interview together on Sunday March 29 & Saturday April 18. Our T!C Story Team will guide you through the process of preparing, interviewing, and recording your interview.
Think!Chinatown x Vietnamese Boat People
After hosting “Our Journeys: 50 Years After the Fall,” an exhibition by the organization Vietnamese Boat People (VBP), we are honored to continue our partnership with VBP to dive into the intersections of Chinatown’s stories of migration from Vietnam.
All community recordings will be archived on VBP’s digital Journeys Map to build a Manhattan Chinatown collection, spotlighting Vietnamese and Chinese diaspora histories that intersect with Chinatown. Each storyteller will also receive a raw copy of their recording as a keepsake.
How will these stories live with Think!Chinatown’s work? Through these recordings, projects emerge. For instance, a story may be selected to be a part of T!C’s Storytelling projects such as our Art of Storytelling or Landmarks. Bringing together art and storytelling, our project challenges us to reimagine how we collectively remember, honor, and share the stories of our communities.
