Angle’s Teochew Style Walking Tour
Shop and eat through Chinatown as you pick up all the ingredients you’ll need to make Deep Fried Tofu with Salted Chive Water
Here’s a walking tour that visits the go-to places of your Teochew guide, Angle Ngo.
Start off at New Kam Man to pick up your pantry items. You’ll need Turmeric Powder & Vegetable Oil. While you’re there, head downstairs to check out their extensive dishware and home goods selection.
Browse the fruit stalls at the corner of Canal & Mulberry streets. There’s always a large selection of seasonal and fresh produce… try something new today!
You can’t shop hungry, so head around the corner to the old-school Teochew food diner, Bo Ky, for some Braised Duck over rice, or the many noodle dishes on offer. Don’t sleep on their homemade chili sauce…
Alright, time to keep shopping. Walk to Mott Street and check out the string of green grocers between Hester & Grand St. See what’s fresh! Don’t forget to pick up your chives!
Head over to Longjiang Pork Feet Rice to take home some braised meats. They also sell sugarcane juice in the summer and roasted chestnuts in the winter.
You will, of course, need tofu for your dish! Go to Tak Yick to get your firm tofu in bulk. Warning - they only sell tofu in a cute bucket of at least 12 pieces. If you’re not ready for a tofu feast that large, go to Kong Kee to find your firm tofu for deep frying.
