Afternoon Tea 下午茶: Mid-Autumn Edition
Saturday, October 11th
Session 1 is from 1-2:30PM | Session 2 is from 3:30-5PM
In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, join us for a special afternoon of exploring the rich cultural heritage of mooncakes and tea. Seeing how popular our Afternoon Tea 下午茶 session have been over the last two years, we're bringing the series back again!
We’ll taste the different flavors and textures of each region’s mooncakes. From flaky crust and soft snowskin mooncakes to flavorful coconut and lotus fillings, taste and learn about the different styles of Cantonese, South East Asian, and Fujianese style mooncakes made by artisans from our neighborhood, Manhattan's Chinatown. We’ll also taste regional specific loose-leaf teas that complement each type of mooncake.
Between sips of fragrant tea and bites of rich mooncake we invite you to try your hand at serving tea in the traditional gongfu style, expand your tea-tasting palate and make new friends over afternoon tea! While we taste, we’ll also talk about the cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival– take a look at beautiful wooden mooncake molds and explore different regional celebration customs.
